Celebrating Nayoung’s Birthday!
In March, our lab family gathered to celebrate the birthday of Nayoung Ok.
We are deeply grateful for Nayoung’s tireless dedication to the lab. Whether it’s taking care of the essential behind-the-scenes tasks or pushing through experiments even on weekends, her commitment and thoughtfulness toward her colleagues truly brighten our team.
We hope all the wishes she made while blowing out her candles come true. Happy Birthday, Nayoung! We are so proud to have you with us.
A Heartwarming New Year’s Gathering at the PI’s place
To celebrate the start of the New Year, I invited our lab members to my home for lunch. Although the short notice meant not everyone could join, it was a deeply meaningful time for those who attended. I am especially grateful to the students who took time out of their weekend to visit and play so kindly with my son. It was a joyful afternoon filled with laughter and great conversation outside the laboratory. We look forward to more moments like this in 2026!
Career Talk by Dr. Jangkyung Kim (Weill Cornell; Celltrion)
Jangkyung Kim, who studied at Weill Cornell and now works at Celltrion, visited Korea University College of Medicine for a career talk. He spent about two hours in an in-depth Q&A session addressing students’ questions about academic and industry career paths, followed by a convivial dinner with students and faculty.
Jungeun did her lab rotation in Dr. John Blenis at Weill Cornell as a Ph.D. student from September to December 2024, where she collaborated with Sungyun and contributed to the discovery of NDRG3 phosphorylation.
Despite the short time frame, she worked with exceptional dedication and delivered impressive results.
We are grateful to Jungeun for setting an inspiring example to the students in our lab—showing what it truly means to pursue science with passion and intensity.
Thank you for sharing your energy, commitment, and valuable experience with us.
We wish you continued success and good health as you move forward in your Ph.D. journey, building on the foundation of your earlier work on DNA damage.
We sincerely thank Moonki for sharing his valuable experiences from his Master’s studies and time abroad.
We look forward to seeing Moonki grow further and pursue even greater science in the future.
